²⁰ Abner looked back and said: “Is that you, Asahel?” He replied: “Yes, it is.” ²¹ Abner then said to him: “Turn to your right or left, seize one of the young men, and take from him what is of value.” However, Asahel had no intention of forsaking his pursuit.

²² Abner once again tried to dissuade him: “Cease your pursuit of me. Why should I strike you to the ground? How then could I look your brother Joab in the face?”
